24-year-old hacker Kevin George Poe, the keyboard ninja who staged an attack on genesimmons.com, has been arrested for his cyber crimes.

According to the LA Weekly, hackers resorted to taking down KISS bassist Gene Simmons‘ online property after he suggested harsh punishment for those who share files. He actually said their homes and cars should be seized.

FBI agents picked Poe up at home in Manchester, Conn. He was booked but then released in lieu of a $10,000 bond. He was indicted and charged with conspiracy and unauthorized impairment of a protected computer –translation: being a tech savvy nerd-and is to appear in federal court in Los Angeles in the near future. The exact date has yet to be confirmed. If convicted, he is staring down a maximum of 15 years in the slammer.

It is alleged that Poe is a part of Anonymous, a notorious hacker group.

Here’s the report of the digital havoc that Poe caused. One might say he “demonized” Simmons’ website:

“During a five-day period in October 2010, Poe and others linked to Anonymous allegedly conducted a distributed denial of service (DDoS) attack against Simmons’ computer systems, sending tens of thousands of electronic requests designed to overload the computer server and render the website useless. According to the indictment, Poe used a favorite software tool of the Anonymous collective – a Low Orbit Ion Cannon, which is a computer program that is used to send extremely large numbers of “packets” or requests over a network in an attempt to overwhelm a target computer.”
