Gay for Johnny Depp’s ‘Nine Inch Males (Born to Hate)’ Tips Hat to Trent Reznor – Song Premiere

The name Gay for Johnny Depp doesn't exactly smack of subtlety, now does it? Noisecreep is premiering 'Nine Inch Males (Born to Hate),' a slab of fuzzy, white noise-addled hard rock that pays somewhat of an homage to Trent Reznor.

"The main riff for this song is a fairly obvious tip of the hat to Trent Reznor and his brilliance in layering," GFJD's Joe Jagger told Noisecreep. "I remember vividly when I was in school and listening to 'The Downward Spiral' and realizing how his technique of repeating a theme and stacking new ideas on top of that reminded me of 'Revel's Bolero.' So it is funny that 16 years or so later he should win a Golden Globe for (in part) covering that very song."

Beyond the song -- which embodies the Brooklyn band's commitment to "embrace art, violence and sexual energy in all that we work, eat and create" -- Gay for Johnny Depp obviously have a sense of humor often missing in aggressive bands.

In fact, we had to ask them what makes one gay for Depp. Is it his eyes? His tattoos? His ability to wear guy-liner effortlessly? "I'd would begin with the high cheekbones, but it really is the whole picture as one lovely package," Jagger said. "Subtract one thing and the whole would be diminished. I'm sure [Depp's girlfriend Vanessa Paradis] agrees."

GFJD don't worry that their funny moniker will detract from the integrity of their music. "Of course people will take it seriously," Jagger said. "I mean when you think about it, Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd are pretty stupid band names on the face of it. It was the music, no?"

'That Which Doesn't Kill You, Eventually Kills You,' the band's second album, is out Feb. 15.
