Anders Eek, the man behind the kit for Norwegian metal greats Funeral, has been hospitalized after suffering a heart attack, Blabbermouth.net reports. The drummer is in stable condition, and while he's apparently optimistic about his recovery, doctors are awaiting the results of additional tests.

Progenitors of the "funeral doom" sub-sub-genre, the foursome recently completed a new album, Oratorium, due out later this year.

In a recent interview posted on the band's website, Eek -- the lone original member -- talked up the new record.

"It has the most bombastic production and songs ever composed by us," he said. "It also contains tracks that are slower and longer than we haven't released since 1994-95. It will be a very diverse piece. It's by far the album we have used most time and resources on in the history of the band."
