When there is free beer, at a free show in New York, N.Y. of all places, everyone gets excited. So on Aug. 6 at Fontanas, when Howl drummer Tim gulped his tightly-gripped can of beer, there was cheering and clapping -- basically way too much happiness for a metal show. "I wish people would cheer like that every time I drink a beer," he responded.

Vocalist Vincent's banter also proved that these sludge super machines still have some human left in them, "Here's an old jam. It's not like anyone knows our s--- anyways." And then there was that song, "This is about a rich lady's toes getting gnawed off by a rat. And I'm not even joking!"

The Rhode Island quartet will return to Brooklyn Sept. 6 with Toxic Holocaust.
