Fozzy

With the influx of music pirating, wrestler-turned-rock-star Chris Jericho is thankful for fans who spend their hard-earned money on CDs by his band Fozzy. So he decided to do something special for the release of the live CD 'Remains Alive.'

Limited to 1,500 copies and retailing for $149.95, 'Remains Alive' comes with a 'Survival Pack' that includes a Fozzy messenger bag, 'We Are Huge Rock Stars T-Shirt,' lanyard with VIP laminate (access to meet band at any Fozzy show), the 'All That Remains' CD, guitar picks, beer cooler, two badges, shoelaces, dog tags, metal belt buckle, sweatbands, bandanna, new band photo and a metal key chain.

Inserted randomly in one pack is a ticket that will win the holder a new black Epiphone guitar signed by guitarist Rich Ward and Jericho. Included in 25 packs will be gold tickets that will win the holders a personal phone call from Jericho.

"We just wanted to do one of those old-style Kiss things where you put as much stuff in there as you can," Jericho told Noisecreep. "We wanted to make it as unique and as special as you can and do a limited edition of it, just for the real true die-hard fans that have been waiting for something new from Fozzy. It worked out great. We made 500 of them initially. It sold so well that we've released another 1,000 now. It's been going really, really well."

Remains Alive was recorded in Brisbane, Australia, on the Fozzy in Aussie Tour in September 2005 and contains songs from all three previous Fozzy albums.

"We recorded it in Australia four years ago and we were kind of just sitting on it," Jericho said. "Now that [the new CD] 'Chasing the Grail' is about to come out, it was the perfect time to release the live record. It's sort of as a teaser, and it's an appetizer before the main course of 'Chasing the Grail' comes out. Then when we were going to release it, wanted to make it a little bit more special than just a normal live record. That's when we came up with the idea of a Survival Pack."

Jericho said he, the band and management went through the list of available goodies to insert in the Survival Pack and then came up with the idea for a gold ticket. This isn't the first time Jericho has included prizes with CDs. Their 2002 release, 'Happenstance,' featured randomly inserted guitar picks. Then, 2005's 'All That Remains' came with a DVD of the band playing at England's Download Festival, he said.

"It's so interesting how the record business is these days," Jericho said. "People are just pirating so much stuff and downloading whatever they want to for free. For the real fans that support the band, it's kind of a reward right back. It's like we know you're paying some money to get it, but we're going to give you something in return. You're paying to get the record and everything else is a bonus."
