Four Year Strong’s Alan Day on Zombies and Dressing Up Like Slipknot for Halloween
Four Year Strong's promotional gears are currently set to "full steam ahead" mode. The melodic punkers are out on the AP Tour with Gallows, Title Fight, The Swellers, and Sharks and just last week the band debuted the video for Just Drive,' the first single from their forthcoming album, 'In Some Way, Shape, or Form.'
Produced by David Bendeth (Paramore, Papa Roach), the new album still features Four Year Strong's hooky balance of crunching breakdowns and mile-wide choruses, but this time out songs like opener 'The Infected' pack more hard-rock muscle in the guitar department.
Lyrically speaking, the album finds Four Year Strong taking on some tried and true punk rock subjects. "To put it simply, 'The Infected' was inspired by the concept of conformity. So it's a play on the idea of being infected by other people to conform to something just because they want you to. It's the classic "be yourself" idea," Four Year Strong vocalist/guitarist Alan Day tells Noisecreep.
"We haven't shot the video yet, but I'm excited about the concept for it. The exact storyline isn't set yet, but the basic idea is that there's a zombie apocalypse. In our video, instead of the band running away from all of the zombies, we're actually at peace with these zombies taking over the world at first. At some point we do fight them to take control back and start killing zombies like crazy – it's going to be awesome!"
In honor of Halloween, Noisecreep asked Day what horror films he recommended for our readers. "I know it's newer, but 'Zombieland' is actually a great movie. I guess it's not really a straight-up horror film, but it's definitely worth seeing. I also love Rob Zombie's 'Halloween' remakes. We've been out on tour, so I haven't been able to see the new episodes of 'The Walking Dead' yet, but the first season was amazing. I've heard the first few episodes this season have been really great."
Although the band's Halloween night show just got canceled, Four Year Strong had a lot of fun at last year's holiday gig. "We played our first-ever Halloween show in 2010 and we all dressed up as Slipknot. It was awesome. Wearing a mask on stage is awesome. No, we played the entire set in those masks and it was awful. It was so hot."
'In Some Way, Shape, or Form' will be out on Nov. 8th via Decaydance Records/Universal Republic.
