Former Megadeth Members Nick Menza + James LoMenzo Form New Project
Drummer Nick Menza was in Megadeth from 1989 to 1998, and again briefly in 2004. He appeared on numerous albums including the legendary ‘Rust in Peace.’ Bassist James LoMenzo was in the band from 2006 to 2010. Now the two are collaborating in a new post-Megadeth project.
There aren’t a lot of details available as of yet, but the rockers recently jammed at Menza’s California studio with vocalist/guitarist Davor Garasic from the Croatian band Sufosia. They played everything from Megadeth classics to Led Zeppelin covers to Metallica‘s ‘Motorbreath.’
Menza talked with Metal Hammer about the collaboration with LoMenzo, saying, “James is a top-notch player with a killer sound — I’m totally pumped and looking forward to creating some heavy original material with him once we officially solidify the rest of the lineup.”
He says there’s no timeline in place yet: “Things are still in the developing stages, so as soon as James fulfils his touring obligations with John Fogerty, we’ll sink our teeth into this project. Right now, we’re having some fun and collaborating with other players from around the world via the Internet to see what’s out there. Nothing is set in stone.”
LoMenzo says, “I’ve been a fan of Nick’s drumming for a long time. He’s a great guy and he’s one of metal’s stand-out drummers. It’s an honor and privilege to be making music with him and I look forward to what we’ll create.”
We’ll keep you posted on the status of the Menza / LoMenzo project.
