Flashback: Deicide on Cable Access in 1988 [Watch]
Before settling on the name Deicide, the band was know as Amon. They were a part of the burgeoning Tampa death metal scene alongside others like Morbid Angel and Nocturnus. Here we have a video gem of how confusing death metal was to everyone on the outside.
After a brief news introduction on death metal, the video cuts to Amon at the one minute mark, as a bald man in a tuxedo timidly introduces the band. He explains that they are there to play “a couple original tunes” and lets Glen Benton introduce the rest of the band. After a big hand from the audience, the band breaks into ‘Sacrificial Suicide,’ assaulting multiple senses with their bludgeoning death metal and Carnivore-like stagewear.
