Chicago's Fashion Bomb stand in their own world. Sure it's easy to lump them in the pile of industrial comparisons to Marilyn Manson and early Nine Inch Nails, but they go their own direction with disdaining riffs and an ever-evolving sound. Currently the band is out on the road opening for the purveyors of Latin-flavored metal Ill Niño. With such a distinctly different audience, Noisecreep caught up with the band to find out how the shows are going.

"Ill Nino's fans always count on them to bring an unforgettable performance, and we always strive to do that as well," frontman Adrian Valerie said. "Their fans usually don't know us, but they know good music. Even though we have our differences, it's still metal ... and their fans have been very kind to us and have been very supportive"

Valerie admitted that while playing to what is mostly a new audience to the band, they have avoided their notorious covers that mark sets and surprise fans in headlining shows. Instead, new material is being road tested. "We are actually debuting a new song on this tour that will be included in our future album. We are still bringing the new sound of 'Visions of the Lifted Veil' to the masses, so we are concentrating on live shows for now."

He added, "We are however always writing, and any new songs will always reach for the next step, the more hidden thought, the lost symbol, the truth in front of us that is constantly overlooked."

Known for drawing inspiration from outside of the music world, writers like George Orwell and Hunter S. Thompson are often sources the band pulls from. "Taking inspiration from the aforementioned artists and scholars is only logical," said the frontman. "They are pioneers of thought, and we try to explore themes that allow a listener to explore the song, both musically and in meaning, to take in the piece and make that musical journey their own. We all do this in different ways, so whether it's the choice of guitar dynamic or a lyric or an odd time signature that takes the listener there, we try to provide those avenues."

Fashion Bomb will be on tour with Ill Niño until the Feb. 20. In case that's not enough of the band for you, make sure to check out the no-holds-barred documentary 'Behind the Lifted Veil' on the band that can be viewed for free.
