"I have young kids now and I wouldn't dream of letting them listen to my music," Exhorder frontman Kyle Thomas admits to Noisecreep. "Some of it, but not Exhorder. I have no desire."

Exhorder are back in action. The band is actively working on new music and just played two reunion gigs in Louisiana at the end of 2009. As the focus shifts to the future, Thomas can't help but take a little look back at the past and shake his head at some of the songs he's written.

"I was 15 when I wrote lyrics for the song 'Legions of Death,' and I look at it now and I can't even imagine going to see a kid 15, 16, 17 playing what we were playing back then. But it worked, and it was the right time and now these songs are considered influential and legendary. We were just looking to see what we could do to make people tick and to get people thinking. I definitely think we succeeded in scaring people at some point and I know that was part of the plan."

Don't be fooled. While Thomas and his bandmates are all grown up with families of their own, this hasn't softened the classic Exhorder sound. "It will sound like Exhorder. I promise you that. It will be Exhorder. There's no way in hell we would record anything and serve it up to everybody without it sounding the way it's supposed to," Thomas said.

Thomas also said fans shouldn't get excited for another 'Slaughter in the Vatican' or 'The Law.' While the band is proud of both albums and their place in metal history, Exhorder have definite plans for a more refined, better produced sound.

"I'd like to see us get back to better song structures that we had going on with 'Slaughter in the Vatican' but we can't deny the technical stamp that the guys put on 'The Law' because it's unbelievable," Thomas said. "I think you will hear hints of each one in the new stuff, but you're going to see a better representation. More than anything, we're going to have a better production."

Better, but not "slick" production. In the end, Thomas hopes that whoever the band taps to produce their new album will be able to capture the raw intensity of a live Exhorder show.

"We're not satisfied with what we've done so far. We're gonna keep chugging away until it isn't working I guess," Thomas concludes.

Look for a new Exhorder release by the end of 2010.
