Ex-Fozzy Guitarist Isn’t Bitter, Looking to the Future

Former Fozzy axe Mike Martin recently exited the band on the eve of the release of 'Chasing the Grail.' Of course, Internet rumors swirled about what went down, so Martin checked in with Noisecreep to set the record straight. For our part, when we spoke to Jericho, he was 100 percent cordial and complimentary towards Martin.

"I have received many messages concerning my status with Chris Jericho's band Fozzy and my involvement with the new album," Martin told Noisecreep. "I am no longer with the band as a member. I did not quit nor leave on any terms of mutual dissatisfaction based on unrealistic expectations. Fozzy's management informed me in August of 2009 that the band wanted to make a change to the touring line up. This, I believe, is due to a personal falling out between me and one of the band members over business matters. Their decision, I understand and respect, and will leave any personal matters to remain private. I appreciate all the mail I've received from fans wanting to know what happened and wishing me well."

Furthermore, Martin wanted to espouse the appreciation he felt for working with Jericho on 'Wormwood,' the much-talked about, 14-minute epic that closes out 'Chasing the Grail.' Martin said, "I want everyone to know that my experience working with Jericho on 'Wormwood' has been positive and enthusiastic between myself and Chris. It would not be on the record without his encouragement and support of my work. He's a brother and he really went to bat for me. I'm proud to have contributed to the new album. 'Wormwood' is the best example to date of my work as a composer, producer and as a guitar player in spite of the fact that there was no budget in the album project for this piece. Not only does this work show what I am capable of, but it shows what I can do with no money.'

Martin wished his ex-bandmates "all the success in the world with this album. It's an honor to be included in such a cool record. Playing with the group has been an amazing opportunity that I will remember fondly." As for his future, Sean Delson, Eric Frampton and Martin collaborating on a new Agent Cooper album and various solo and production projects for one another. "It's an honor to work in the studio with them as well as having them perform in the Mike Martin Band with me when they are available," Martin said. The guitarist books shows, collaborates with other artists and does freelance session guitar work.
