Hands Frontman Shane Ochsner Discusses His New Everything In Slow Motion Project (EXCLUSIVE)

Shane Ochsner

Just the other day, Facedown Records publicist Shannon Quiggle contacted Noisecreep to let us know that the label was just about to release new music from Hands frontman Shane Ochsner. The new solo project, dubbed Everything In Slow Motion, finds Ochsner taking the progressive elements of Hands’ sound even further, resulting in the most dynamic and instantly engaging songwriting we’ve heard from the singer.

“Hands is more or less done. We haven’t really made any official announcement on what our future holds, but I think our fans and friends are pretty aware that we’re not really being a band anymore. We also haven’t made any plans for a last show or anything like that, but we were pretty much done a couple of years ago when we stopped touring,” Ochsner told Noisecreep during a chat today. It was his first official interview about the project.

The North Dakota-based musician told us that Hands’ 2011 Give Me Rest album actually helped serve as the impetus for Everything In Slow Motion: “Getting that album done really allowed for me to creatively do what I wanted to do with Hands. Once that was done, I knew I wanted to keep on writing and recording music, but I wanted to start from scratch. I’m not trying to stand on some kind of foundation that was already built. I want people to check out Everything In Slow Motion as its own thing.”

The folks at Facedown Records just released a limited edition 7″ called Red, which serves as a stellar introduction to Everything In Slow Motion. “They actually released the Hands album even though they knew we weren’t going to go out and tour for it. That says a lot about the label and how they’re not just going out there to find the next thing that will make them tons of money. They care about the music too much.

“So after Hands was done, Jason [Dunn, founder of Facedown Records] heard some of the little demo stuff I did for Everything In Slow Motion and he said he was more than happy to work with me and get the music out there on Facedown. I was blown away! I’m happy to be working with people that are genuinely into what I’m doing with this new project.”

Red is available now as a limited edition 7″ and digitally worldwide through iTunes, Amazon MP3 and all other digital accounts. The 7″ is an extremely limited pressing of 330 copies, and includes hand-numbered screen printed covers, available exclusively through the Facedown Records online store. All 7″ orders will receive an instant download of both songs.

Expect a full-length album from Everything In Slow Motion in 2013. Stay tuned to Noisecreep for more information.
