Don Dokken: No New Shows With Classic Dokken Lineup Are Planned

Last year Dokken played a handful of reunion shows in Japan with the band’s classic lineup, including guitarist George Lynch and bassist Jeff Pilson. While frontman Don Dokken said at the time of the reunion shows that those would be the only gigs with that lineup, a few weeks ago Lynch said there was talk about possibly doing something in 2018, and that he would love for it to happen.

But in a new interview with L.A. Weekly, Dokken makes it sound like the possibility of more reunion shows is remote. “We played in Japan with George, but that was a one-time thing,” Dokken says. “Five shows. Never say never, but as far as right now, I’m not planning more shows with Jeff and George. There’s no point. They all have their various projects. It just happened to be a moment in time when the stars aligned. Plus Jon [Levin] is an underrated monster.”

This Saturday, March 11, Dokken will be playing a show on Hollywood’s Sunset Strip at the Whiskey with the current lineup of Dokken, the aforementioned Jon Levin (guitar), Chris McCarvill (bass) and Mick Brown (drums).

“It’s going to be something very special,” Dokken says. “We’re playing 17 songs, a two-hour show. It’ll be the first time I’ve sang for two hours in 20 years. My voice is very good right now and I can do it. We’re playing obscure, deep, deep tracks that nobody’s heard in years. It’ll be interesting.”

A DVD with footage of some the reunion shows in Japan along with a warmup gig in South Dakota is reportedly in the works and set to be released sometime this year. We’ll keep you posted on those details.
