Devin Townsend Project Release New Song ‘Secret Sciences’

Devin Townsend is a man of many sounds and the newest sonic territory of the Devin Townsend Project is explored on their upcoming Transcendence album. With the song "Failure" previously released, it's time for another calming dose of Hevy Devy with the new song "Secret Sciences" (video above).

The song boasts Townsend's brilliantly balanced wall-of-sound approach to production, starting off with gentle acoustic guitar strumming aided by crystalline synthesizers and a droning, distorted guitar mirroring the acoustic. A guitar melody breaks the atmosphere, enhanced by Townsend's soothing voice as "Secret Sciences" continues, still with little percussion.

As the drums finally come into play, the pace gradually picks up with more nuances presenting themselves as the song rolls on. The mid-section explores the climax of "Secret Sciences" as ethereal facets of the song collide with the heavier moments found across the seven and a half minute run time.

Townsend commented on how Transcendence differed from previous DTP records as it was a full band collaboration. "The result of this process is a record that I truly think the intention of is special. I 'found' gas to put into the tank and am glad I did. I think the intention, the theme, and the participation of everyone involved allows this album to act like a fulcrum between the past few years and what I intend to do next with the symphony. I am very proud of it and everyone involved," he said.
