Dead Cross (Feat. Mike Patton + Dave Lombardo) Announce Self-Titled Album, Unleash New Song ‘Grave Slave’

The new incarnation of Dead Cross have just revealed the release date for their self-titled debut album! With Faith No More legend Mike Patton on vocals, Dead Cross will unleash the full-length on Aug. 4 via Patton’s own Ipecac Recordings.

Dead Cross began with Gabe Serbian on vocals, but according to bassist Justin Pearson, Serbian exited the group after recording vocals for Dead Cross. Instead of just releasing the record, Dave Lombardo and crew recruited Mike Patton to write his own lyrics for the album. Dead Cross recently shared the track “Shillelagh” with fans, now giving us the fresh cut “Grave Slave.”

“Let’s be honest, being in a band like this at almost 50 years old is a little comical,” Patton tells Rolling Stone. “I’m not some young tough guy trying to prove a point anymore. For me to make a record like this, it’s entirely a musical adventure. I just think it’s fun, and it makes me smile and laugh a lot.”

As for “Grave Slave,” Patton found inspiration in the topic of cartel gunslingers. “I was like, ‘This could be about a gunslinger or drug dealer at the border – a cartel,'” Patton explains. “The other guys in the band come from Southern California, and I’ve spent a lot of time in San Diego, so pistoleros are a part of our lives. It’s a huge point of contention with our new president, so I thought it was a cool topic.”

You can hear the Pattonization of Dead Cross in “Grave Slave” compared to the original band and fans of Mike Patton’s many bizarre projects are likely to latch onto this one as well. Check out “Grave Slave” in the player above and fans can pre-order Dead Cross by clicking here.
