The lead-up to November's presidential election is bound to be a real slog, what with all the attack ads, boring party conventions and contentious debates, but there's one thing we can look forward to: more political commentary from Dave Mustaine.

The Megadeth frontman has been quite candid about his conservative views, and in a recent interview (video below) with Canadian talk-show host George Stroumboulopoulos, the singer reveals that he doesn't believe President Obama was born in the United States. Interestingly, he doesn't consider himself a "birther."

"I have a lot of questions about [Obama], but certainly not where he was born," Mustaine says. "I know he was born somewhere else than America."

Asked by Stroumboulopoulos why he doubts Obama's contention -- supported by plenty of official documentation -- that he hails from the good ol' U.S. of A., Mustaine counters with a question of his own.

"How come he was invisible until he became whatever he was in Illinois?" he asks, later adding, "They have no record of him."

Stroumboulopoulos is prepared to press him on it, but the metal legend refuses to take the bait.

"I want to change the subject," Mustaine says. "I don't want to talk about my president."

Maybe he's pacing himself. It's a long way to November.
