I've always thought of Darkthrone's Fenriz as being a lot like my cool uncle who brought me to see Kiss in 1979 when I was just a toe headed lil' runt. But unlike my cool uncle who went on to become a cop who "confiscates" illegal fireworks only to take them home for his own enjoyment, Fenriz wears a tattered black leather jacket, gets his kicks solo camping in the forests of Norway, and has sort of become the underground version of Lemmy, as I have yet to see Hillary Duff walking around in a Darkthrone t-shirt.

if you are a regular visitor to Darkthrone's MySpace, then you probably know that Fenriz is always recommending some the finest obscure metal from around the planet. If you are not aware of this, I highly suggest you check out some of his recent recommendations.

"A lot of bands have tried to get that late 60s/early 70s sound right since the 90s...but this band takes the cake. The sound is completely perfect, TONS of soul, and I can't wait for the album to hit the shelves. Also, it's mysterious, cuz as y'all can hear, there ain't no vocals yet on these myspace tracks. Let's hope it won't sound like Shakira-vocals HAHAHAHA!" - Fenriz

He has a point there; crappy vocals might really screw this up, but I doubt that will be the case. These guys seem to know what they're doing. The kicker is they're from Missouri!

Cast Iron - "Without further ado, it's time to present this band to those of you out there who haven't heard it yet. this is a treat for all lovers of real heavy metal, old sound, of course. I am lucky enough to have their 4 track CD, YEAH!!!" - Fenriz

When was the last time you heard the vocalist scream "GUITAR!" right before the solo kicked in and actually mean it? Their 12" mini LP is called 'Leather and Metal,' which I won't even Google to see if it's been used before, because no band deserves that title for their record more than these guys do.

Corrupt - "Me and my crew have been fans of CORRUPT for years now, as this is crystal clearly the best THRASH band EVER from Sweden, but one also has to mention the 'December Moon' demo by MORBID, and MERCILESS' 'The Awakening.' We thought CORRUPT was put on ice because they are also involved with another great band called ENFORCER (hail), but they surprised us all and have recorded their debut album in tötal secrecy, hehe. I CAN'T WAIT!!" - Fenriz

Corrupt are a young band, and perhaps that's what provides the spark behind their Sodom, Kreator, and Sepultura influenced thrash. I get the feeling they don't give a crap if there is some sort of 'thrash metal revival' happening or not, clearly they were born to thrash. Fenriz nails it again.
