Cult of Luna Unveil ‘Vertikal II’ Release Details + Fall Tour

Swedish art/noise rockers Cult of Luna will drop 'Vertikal II,' a four-track, 30-minute release on Sept. 17 via Density Record. It follows the band's sixth platter 'Vertikal,' which landed in January. The band will also join forces with Katatonia for a fall tour, so there is definitely a swirl of activity in the Cult of Luna camp.

The four tracks here were penned during the 'Vertikal' sessions and close the book on that musical movement in the band's career.

""Vertikal II' is the continuation of our journey into the harshness of the monotone city landscape,” explained singer and guitarist Johannes Persson. “The songs were written during the 'Vertikal' session and we always intended them to be released close to the album. Justin Broadrick's remix was not a part of the original plan but since it came out phenomenally good we thought that it would fit perfectly as closer of the whole 'Vertikal' project. With 'Vertikal II,' we complete and end a chapter that, for the last few years, have been a big part of our lives. Now we leave the inner city and look up into the vast void above.”

Another void the band is looking to fill is in the North American live realm. They're happy to return to the U.S. and with a new musical offering in hand.

"After the release of 'Vertikal' and the massive progress we feel we have made over the last couple of years -- both as a live act and in the studio -- the timing couldn't be better for us to return to US soil,” Persson continued. “Cult of Luna is a live act above all else and we are looking forward to connecting again with the US audience that treated us so well in 2005."
