While Stone Sour prep for their lengthy 2018 tour, which kicks off later this month and wraps in September, Slipknot fans are (not so) patiently awaiting any news about the band’s return to the studio to begin work in their sixth album.

In a recent interview with Billboard, frontman Corey Taylor gives the Maggots some serious reason to get excited. “The guys are writing tons of music and I’ve written lyrics to almost all of it,” Taylor said. “We’re going to start trying to put together demos here and there with the time off that I have and really try to get ahead of the curve as far as what happens next.”

Taylor continues, “I know that we’re gonna try and put an album out next year — however, that is all speculation. The best way to make God laugh is to announce your plans out loud. So I’m just going with the flow. The plan right now is next year but that is a huge plan because we still haven’t narrowed anything down, so we will definitely see what happens.”

As we previously reported, Taylor revealed the next Slipknot album will “absolutely” arrive in 2019. He added that the effort is shaping up to be “really dark.” Shawn “Clown” Crahan also reinforced that sentiment revealing the band plans to hit the studio in November adding, “There’s a plethora of shit written.”

The Billboard interview with Taylor also covers Stone Sour’s new video for “St. Marie,” Ozzy Osbourne‘s farewell tour, contemplating his next book and more. Check out the entire interview here.

Stone Sour kick off their tour in Jacksonville, Florida on April 28. Check out all their tour dates here.
