Corey Taylor Picks Electric Light Orchestra, ‘Rocky Horror Picture Show’ + More in ‘What’s in My Bag’

Corey Taylor has a lot of opinions on everything from politics to Chad Kroeger. The Slipknot and Stone Sour frontman recently appeared on Amoeba Records’ online series What’s In My Bag as he visited the store to pick out a selection of records, merchandise and more.

Taylor starts out with Strange Magic, a best of compilation from rock group Electric Light Orchestra. He brings up with his road to appreciating the band, which happened pretty recently in his road to music tastes. His love for the band was cemented in his head after seeing Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 earlier this year with the song “Mr. Blue Sky” appearing in the intro.

From there, he pulls out a shirt baring the iconic lips from Rocky Horror Picture Show. He talks about growing up a huge fan of the movie, getting to experience productions of it at a local bar, and partaking as the character “Riff Raff” when he could. “It wasn’t just pure, opulent decadence, it was also me discovering my people,” he says of his Rocky Horror experience. He then picks up a copy of I Want My MTV: The Uncensored Story of the Music Video Revolution, speaking on his love for music history and learning about all aspects of the industry, as well as his introduction to MTV.

Taylor pulls out another t-shirt with Frank Zappa on it, and muses on the iconic artist’s insane and wildly different contributions to music sonically and attitude wise. Next, the singer chooses Clash on Broadway, a compilation album charting the course of The Clash from their career. “So much of my attitude towards writing songs, or the way I approach meaning, comes from my love for this band,” he says. He wraps it up with a classic Wu-Tang Clan shirt, laughing, “You can never have too many Wu-Tang shirts.”
