Coalesce

Coalesce will partner up with Converge for select dates of the band's 'Axe to Fall' tour. Coalesce will appear on dates beginning May 8 and running through May 22. Lewd Acts and Black Breath will also perform.

"Coalesce has never gotten to go to the West Coast very much," singer Sean Ingram told Noisecreep about the band's inclusion on a string of Weft Coast dates. "Our touring success was mainly East, so we didn't usually go much further than that. So getting to support our friends in Converge was like a gift to us." But playing with Converge isn't the only treat for Coalesce, who hail from the landlocked Kansas City region. Ingram also said, "The beach. That's it. We want to see sandy beaches and enjoy our time together as a band of friends while we still have the chance too."

The band is also excited about the lower stress position that's implicit in being a support act. "We feel like the pressure is off on this tour," Ingram said. "Converge delivered not only one hell of a record with 'Axe to Fall,' but one hell of a popular one. The usual concerns of us headlining have happily evaporated. You know ... will anyone show up? Will the promoter pay us, etc, etc. It's just fun and scenery to us. I even get to bring my bike on this trip so I hope to pick up some hardcore bike polo games in the parking lots at least one night on this tour."

Coalesce are supporting their 2009 effort, 'OX,' which was their first album in a decade. They are also supporting the follow up, 'OXEP.' Fans can stream 'OX' in its entirety at www.CoalesceOX.info. Ingram and his bandmates aren't stressed out about the current music business climate of shrinking record sales and declining ticket sales, which is a much different scenario from when the band first formed. However, Coalesce exist outside of that paradigm and are unaffected by the ebbs and flows of the music industry.

"We never really think too much of the climate of fans, only because our success always comes when we are broken up, then evaporates when we get going again," Ingram said. "So it's a wash as far as we are concerned. The main point of doing this again was to get our creative outlet back again, and enjoy ourselves as friends until it wasn't in the cards for us anymore. So getting to see the ocean and redwood forests and the ports in Seattle, plus play with Converge and these other great new bands? It's just more of a vacation mindset than a work mindset!"

Amen to that.
