Chris Jericho: People Say New Fozzy Record Has Six Singles

WWE star and Fozzy frontman Chris Jericho has a problem -- but it's not necessarily a bad thing. He has previewed his forthcoming album, 'Chasing the Grail,' for radio programmers and many of them said there are too many potential singles on the CD.

"I know radio programmers who have heard this record are kind of confused," Jericho told Noisecreep. "Having said that, as to what song to use as a single, one of the higher-ups that we talked to said there are six possible singles on this record. It's cool to know there's that much material and interest in the record.

"The guy who worked with us on [the 2004 single] 'Enemy,' which was played on 102 stations across the U.S., was very excited about it. He said in 20 years of being a radio programmer, he never had this problem of not knowing which song to choose as the single. So, it's kind of a good problem to have."

Jericho, whose 'Chasing the Grail' has been finished since August, said he can't wait for fans to hear the album.

"We're really excited about it more than anything because we took our time with the record," Jericho said. "We really made it exactly the way we wanted it. Now that it's been done since August, we've decided to take the time with the release date, build it up and have a buzz at its peak by the time it comes out so everybody has a chance to hear it. I think it's going to knock people's socks off."

This one, he said, is a far cry from the first two albums, 2000's 'Fozzy' and 2002's 'Happenstance.'

"With the first couple records, it was more of a fun kind of thing," Jericho said. "The third release, 'All That Remains,' is the first record to show what Fozzy was as a band and the type of material they could do.

"It did some big things for us," he continued. "Our song 'Enemy' was a hit on rock radio all across the States. We did sold-out tours of the U.K., Ireland, Scotland, Wales and Australia. We had some really good momentum built up. I think people are really kind of excited and curious to hear what we would do next.

For the first time, Fozzy has a ballad on the album and a 14-minute prog rock-inspired tune called 'Wormwood.'

"It's got pretty much everything," said Jericho, who added that a tour would depend on demand. "It's all very Fozzy. We really spent a lot of time to get it exactly perfect, exactly the way we wanted it. Now that it's finished, it's going to make people really take notice of this band and realize what a great rock 'n' roll band we are."

Jericho explained the strengths on the album are his vocals and Rich Ward's guitar riffs. "There's monster riffs," Jericho said. "The solos are great. The vocals, I've never sang like this -- ever. I got the most out of my voice. We always wanted to do a long song, so we have 'Wormwood,' a 14-minute monster epic. It feels like it's three minutes, it goes by so fast.

"Then we also have a '70s-type Southern rock-type ballady-type tune called 'Broken Soul,' which is something we've never done before. It's very catchy and very memorable. The 'Enemy'-type songs -- 'Watch Me Shine' and 'New Day's Dawn' -- are just pounding heavy rockers. We got a little bit of everything. I'm excited for people to hear this. I think it's going to be one of the rock records of the year for 2010. It's funny. When you make a record, you spend so much time on it and make it perfect, once you actually hear it and it's all done, we can't wait for everyone else to check it out. We have to wait. We have to wait for Christmas, too."
