Chimaira Announce Midwest Tour Dates with New Line-Up
Chimaira have recently wrapped the recording process for their forthcoming eOne debut. While that album is due out later this year, the band be performing a handful of tour dates throughout the Midwest this spring.
Most of the dates are concentrated in the band’s native Ohio, while the first show takes place up in Flint, Michigan. Perhaps Flint native and political documentarian Michael Moore will come out to the show and enjoy a little metal?
Mark Hunter (vocals), Rob Arnold (guitars) and Matt DeVries (guitar) remain at the core of Chimaira. Daath guitarist Emil Werstler has taken over for the retired Jim LaMarca on bass, while recently departed keyboardist Chris Spicuzza has been replaced by Sean Zatorsky. Austin D’Amond now sits behind the kit, replacing former time keeper Andols Herrick, who was asked to leave, and then declined to return when he was invited back.
Herrick recently issued a statement to the PRP forum regarding the matter. “I cannot stress enough how significantly different the circumstances are now than back in 2004,” he wrote. “The short story is that the guys had taken issue with certain aspects of my role in the band. Nothing discussed was out of anger or anything personal, but I was definitely not expecting it and it was quite the spirit crusher for me. The decision was made that it would be in the band’s best interest to move forward without me.
“I was obviously devastated, but again there was no ill will between us. Later, I was asked to rejoin, but after some painful contemplation in my mind, I decided it was best not to. I started to see everything that happened as something that was ultimately positive.
“A major transition in life is much more manageable at 31 than it is in your late 30s or early 40s, so as a guy with literally zero experience in anything else, better now then later. Plus, it would be hard to go back without feeling constantly uneasy about the situation.”
