Candlemass Rack Up the Frequent Flier Miles

“I honestly think this is the best album we have done since ‘Nightfall,’ and it deserves be recognized,” Candlemass‘ bassist and founding member Leif Edling told Noisecreep about the band’s new album, ‘Death Magic Doom.’ He finished, saying, “Robert sings like a man possessed and Lars Johansson’s solos are nothing but stunning.” Given Candlemass’ status as one of the premiere Swedish doom bands, the new album, featuring eight tracks of gloomy goodness, has a lot to live up to yet doesn’t disappoint. There’s an even an ultra-slow sludgefest dubbed ‘Hammer of Doom’ that lives on the album! “‘Death Magic Doom’ is a little bit lighter than the previous album, ‘King of the Grey Islands.’ It’s also a bit broader and more straightforward in a way but also more multifaceted at the same time. Just listen to it and you will understand what I mean,” Edling said.

New vocalist Robert Lowe, an American singer formerly with Solitude Aeturnus, is supremely excited to be a member of the band. With his second effort with Candlemass under his belt now, Lowe said, “Candlemass have allowed me to continue following the path of doom and exploring new worlds and realms of reality, even if altered. I have found new friendships amongst my Swedish brothers.”

Lowe certainly has an intense commute, but the rewards and the frequent flier miles far outweigh the inconvenience. He said, “The continual flights back and forth over the waters can be a bit draining, if not outright insanity and crushing. But the outcome is always well worth it.” He also suggests that doom heads that have yet to purchase ‘Death Magic Doom’ should “get off your ass and run to your local retailer. It’s well worth the loss of breath.” Hey, if he can fly several thousand miles for work, you can jog a few blocks to the record store, right? Right!
