Burzum frontman Varg Vikernes and his wife Marie Cachet have been released from police custody after being questioned about a possible "large-scale act of terrorism."

The 40-year-old vocalist was arrested Tuesday (July 16) by the Central Directorate of Interior Intelligence at his farm in Correze, France. Officials questioned both the singer and his wife after she was spotted purchasing four rifles. Their home was ultimately searched for additional weapons, but it was never revealed what the search uncovered.

Officials were also investigating Vikernes because he was one of 530 people to receive a manifesto from Anders Behring Breivik, a far-right extremist who was responsible for killing 77 people in two different attacks in Norway in 2011.

Though they were questioned, NRK reports that the couple were eventually freed and not charged with any crime. However, Metal Sucks adds that the singer is not quite done with the legal system, as he's required to return to court in a few weeks to answer to charges of breaching France's racism laws. The singer was accused of making hateful comments about Jews and Muslims on the Internet.
