Buckcherry Find Themselves in Surreal State in Making Of Video for ‘Nothing But Tears’

A motel murder and a trip through darkened and seemingly haunted forests are just a few of the images viewers will soak up with the new Buckcherry music video for ‘Nothing But Tears.’ The group released a making of video to give their fans a deeper look at the creative process behind this surreal narrative which features most of the band members in heavy makeup.

The video’s director, art director and cinematographer each talked about the challenges of making the video. A ton of back lighting and smoke were employed to give the video an ethereal yet haunting quality. As with most features these days, the project was shot on digital, as the DP employed the RED Scarlet to shoot the video.

A technocrane, which is employed to give a production more latitude in filming tracking shots, was also employed to give ‘Nothing But Tears’ a broader, more cinematic feel.

Although frontman Josh Todd had to blacken his eyes and wear a mask for the clip, other members of Buckcherry spent more time in the makeup chair. The most notable change came from guitarist Stevie D, who had a huge rock sticking out of his back. Bass player Jimmy Ashhurst also was a trooper during filming, as he had his eyes stitched up for the video.

Buckherry are touring in support of their album ‘Confessions.’ Their tour takes them all the way through September 14 with a stop in Sacramento, Calif. (Discovery Park).
