Bruce Dickinson: ‘With Not a Single Penny of Government Money,’ Cardiff Aviation Running

If you've followed Bruce Dickinson's career, you're aware that not only is he a great showman with one of metal's most powerful voices, but the Iron Maiden vocalist is also a savvy businessman who has turned his passion for flying into a business. After serving as a pilot for Astraeus airlines, Dickinson branched out on his own with the Cardiff Aviation maintenance company and he's seen his business grow in a relatively short amount of time.

Speaking in an interview with the Farnborough International Airshow, Dickinson proudly discusses the DIY-attitude of the company, which has enjoyed great early success without any government intervention. "After two-and-a-half years with nothing, with not a single penny of government money of any description, going into this business, we've got a full service MRO ... we've got an airline up and running, which should be profitable within the first six weeks," says Dickinson.

Part of why they've become successful, according to Dickinson, is the experience of those involved in Cardiff Aviation. "We're a relatively new MRO, but with a very experienced MRO personnel, so we've got about 250 years of experience in our senior management, but only one-and-a-half years of proper MRO operating so far," says Dickinson. "So we're pleased that we've got the business in the black territory instead of the redding territory after 18 months. It's incredible."
