Black Sabbath’s Geezer Butler changed rock music forever with his ultra-heavy bass playing and sound. He practically wrote the book on heavy metal bass. Now he and some other bass-playing rock legends will be honored at the 2013 Bass Player Live! convention.

The bass players’ event will take place over two days in Hollywood, Calif., on Nov. 9 and 10. The convention will feature musician clinics and panel discussions, with some of rock’s biggest names in bass playing taking part in the activities. Megadeth’s David Ellefson and Anthrax’s Frank Bello, along with others who play pop, jazz, and rock bass, will be there participating in bass clinics and panel discussions.

Other bass players expected to attend this year’s event include such hard rock and metal icons such as Scott Reeder of Kyuss, Jeff Hughell of Six Feet Under, and Chris Chaney of Jane’s Addiction.

The event is topped off with an all-star concert, with a huge list of rock superstars playing together. The legendary Geezer Butler will be there, along with other metal luminaries, such as Billy Sheehan, Anthrax’s Charlie Benante, Slayer’s Kerry King, Pantera and Kill Devil Hill’s Rex Brown and Zakk Wylde. The concert will honor Butler, as well as Stray Cats upright bass player Lee Rocker, and jazz bassist Tal Wilkenfeld, who is receiving the ‘Young Gun’ award.

Tickets are on sale for the two-day event now, including individual tickets for separate days, as well as weekend passes. Day pass purchases even come with a free subscription to Bass Player Magazine.
