Anvil Bassist Glenn Five Quits Band

Anvil bassist Glenn Five has quit the band.

Five, born Glenn Gyorffy, has reportedly left the power trio due to the ever-popular “creative differences” excuse. The bassist had joined the veteran Canadian metal act back in 1996 and played on seven Anvil albums during that time, including last year’s ‘Juggernaut of Justice.’ The Hollywood Reporter confirmed the news.

Gyorffy’s statement on the matter is as follows:

“Playing in Anvil has given me some of the best years of my life. However, after nearly 16 years with the band, the time has come to move on and try new musical endeavors. Although Anvil has been a great band to play in, I have been limited creatively. I have a wide taste in music and I feel that it’s time to broaden my horizons.”

There’s no word on a replacement for Five as of press time.

Formed in 1978, Anvil’s first three albums — ‘Hard ‘N’ Heavy’ (1981), ‘Metal on Metal’ (1982), ‘Forged in Fire’ (1983) — helped influence giants like Metallica and Slayer. The group hit a commercial lull in the late ’80s and ’90s, but still toured throughout the world. In 2008, ‘Anvil! The Story of Anvil’ a warts and all documentary on the band’s history and struggles through the music business, became a sleeper hit on the film festival circuit. Since then, Anvil have enjoyed a career resurgence and have been keeping busy on the road with the likes of AC/DC and Saxon.
