Anvil's Steve 'Lips' Kudlow isn't delusional about why there is an incredibly renewed sense of interest in his long-running thrash band in 2009. He is well aware that the film 'Anvil! The Story of Anvil' is the quintessential reason that the metal scene's spotlight is shining ever so brightly on the band.

"They made a movie," he told Noisecreep, matter-of-factly. "That's an obvious answer. There has been apathy for 36 years, and now there isn't. So, I would say pretty much that the film is the reason for the attention in the media. We have had a certain amount of success by recording 13 albums, though!" The band will re-release 'This Is Thirteen,' which was initially self-released, Sept. 15 via VH1 Classic Records with a bonus track.

Overall, though, Lips is completely and happily oblivious to the trends in the current scene. But that hasn't stopped him from continuing to rock out with his ... you-know-what out! "If there has been a trend, I suppose there is more interest, but I dunno that it's unusual," he said. "Maybe the metal scene is better now than it was in the 1990s. I don't listen to radio, and I don't know know what the trend is. I live in the undercurrent of all of it. This music never ceases to exist or to be important, though."

Spoken like a headbanger who knows that above all, the strength of the music is the most important element of staying vital, and that's of course why Anvil have outlasted 'em all.
