Steven Tyler, Carrie Underwood Duet: Aerosmith Icon Says Song Was Too ‘Country’ for Bandmates (EXCLUSIVE)

Steven Tyler is no stranger to duets. There was that time the Aerosmith legend did "Come Together" with Alice Cooper and Weird Al. How about "Just Feel Better" with Santana? Do you remember when he did "Misery" with Pink? And who can forget the groundbreaking "Walk this Way" remake with Run DMC?

The rubber-lipped Aerosmith frontman has proven himself flexible in all musical fronts when it comes to sharing the mic, but country music was something he had yet to tap into. Until now.

On Aerosmith's new album, Music From Another Dimension!, Tyler brought in country powerhouse Carrie Underwood for an infectious tune called "Can't Stop Loving You" and it raised more than a few eyebrows in the band, as Noisecreep learned during a chat with the singer and guitarist Brad Whitford.

Brad, how did the rest of the band feel about the Carrie Underwood duet?

Whitford: There was a little band resistance – but not from me! Then we started talking it out. Do you have a problem when you listen to a Dylan record and this guy sits in? No, it's cool, so why not? And then you hear those two voices together – such a perfect move, it sounds perfect – Steven just sounds so awesome with her.

How did the duet come out?

Tyler: I sang the song, 'Can't Stop Loving You,' a little country. One of the guys in the band said, 'You need to re-sing it. You're singing it too country. I said, that's how I wrote it! Marty [Frederickson, co-writer] and I were just talking about it, you know, if it gets on the radio, it sounds like a country song, 'Why not get one of them thar people to sing on it?' [affecting a country accent]. I called Carrie up because she's a friend of mine. She was in L.A., but she was leaving that next morning and I said, 'Ooh, get over here quick!' The rest is history. She sang on it, and it's perfect. It's one of those moments that just is.
