Adrenaline Mob, ‘Coverta’: Mike Portnoy Announces New Album (VIDEO EXCLUSIVE)

Charles Epting

Drummer Mike Portnoy is always one of the most active superstars at the NAMM show held in Anaheim, Calif. each year. A virtual blur as he greets fans, does autograph signings and basically tries to work his way through crowds that want nothing more than a photo op (of which he always happily obliges), this year was no different for the man that has helped bring to life so many incredible bands from Dream Theater, Flying Colors, and many more, including Adrenaline Mob.

The hard rock supergroup features Portnoy, virtuoso guitarist Mike Orlando, vocalist Russell Allen from Symphony X and bassist John Moyer from Disturbed. On the strength of their debut release last year, Omerta, the band toured extensively and won fans over around the world the old school way: by kicking their asses live.

As Portnoy told Noisecreep exclusively at NAMM, Adrenaline Mob will be releasing an album of cover tunes called Coverta. The tracks were specially selected by someone who has essentially made an alternate career of covering the classics: Portnoy himself. Yes, the guys in the band had some input but we can be sure that a bunch of tunes on this album are things that Portnoy has always wanted to do. Because if one thing for sure, when Mike Portnoy sets his mind on doing something, he gets it done.
