Deftones have posted a thunderous roar of a new song, titled 'Rocket Skates,' as a free, 24-hour download for today only on www.deftones.com. The song is the first taste of their forthcoming opus, 'Diamond Eyes,' which was recorded after bassist Chi Cheng lapsed into a coma after a car accident in November 2008 while the band was working on an album called 'Eros,' which has since been shelved.

'Rocket Skates' is vintage 'Tones: crunchy metallic guitar work provided by riffologist Stephen Carpenter and the alternately breathy and shrieked 'n' distorted vocals of Chino Moreno, who screams, "Guns! Razors! Knives" over a bottom-heavy riff that could loosen your teeth from your gums. It's heavier than granite and very Deftones circa '98. An accompanying lyric video set to the song has been released on Youtube, and it's clear Moreno's cryptically poetic lyrical skill is as sharp as ever. 'Rocket Skates' will be available for purchase on April 17 as an exclusive, limited-edition seven-inch vinyl single pressing with a picture sleeve that supports National Record Store Day.

'Diamond Eyes' is due in stores May 18 via longtime label Warner Bros. Go ahead and snag your 'Rocket Skates' download ASAP. We can't stop listening to it here at the Noisecreep compound.
