Impious, ‘Death Domination’ — Album Art of the Week

Impious' 'Death Domination' continues the thrashy death metal band's mounting discography, which started all the way back in 1995. For this recording, they hired Brazilian native Marcelo Vasco to handle the artwork.

"'Death Domination' is a pretty strong title and can be interpreted by many ways," Vasco told Noisecreep. "My vision was [to] bring impacting and traditional elements for the cover, mixing obscure ways of life, death, pain, the natural violence and the beauty of a dark supremacy! That was the start point and since we agree on this, we all work together making all necessary adjustments until get it finished!"

Vasco goes on to explain a little about his techniques and influences, saying, "99 percent of my artwork is done through digital manipulation in Photoshop where I mix tons of layers, working with stock photos, textures and brushes. ... Generally, my arts are rich in details: dark and dirty looking, more like a archaic painting texture! .... [A] big part of my inspiration came from the surrealism, occultism and fiction/horror movies! I also like very much abstract and bio-mechanical conceptions."

Despite having done dozens upon dozens of CD, T-shirt, and logo designs for metal bands, Vasco doesn't show any signs of taking any job for granted. "'Impious' music is really great and extreme, and the cover fits perfectly on the whole album conception," he explained. "[Those] guys are amazing, and I'm very glad to know they enjoyed my work! Thanks Mike and Metal Blade for trusting me and picking me for this project."
