Torche Are Feeling No Pressure

Jonathan Nuñez the bassist of Torche paused for a moment and let an, "uuuhh" preceded his actual words. "No," he told Noiscreep, "we're writing the same way we always have written." The question was whether the writing process has changed for Torche over the years, especially since the success of last years 'Meanderthal'.

It'd be understandable to think there is some pressure on the band. Last year was the year of 'Meanderthal' and no one could escape the clutches of its hook filled stoner rock. Nearly every 'best record list' had a spot for the album, and it wasn't just metal mags and music bloggers giving praise. But Torche is feeling no pressure or worries at this point. "We're really excited," Jonathan says on the writing of a new record and the continual touring schedule.

Despite all the touring, writing is still happening along with planned recording. "We wrote a new song for a split with Boris and we are doing demos for the new record. We are like three or four songs in," he says.

And on that writing process Jonathan calls, "a little more productive. A little easier," he continues, "It' kind of like 'I have this idea, let's try it out' or 'I have this riff'. A lot of that. There is no "I want this song to sound like this" or "I kind of want to do this". Ideas yeah, but we kind of just let things happen. We don't try to write something."

Currently no studio time is set for a 'Meanderthal' follow up but a limited edition 12"/DVD package featuring two unreleased tracks is soon to be released with pretty color options like orange and purple. Get on that.
